(More customer reviews)This book is the best introductory to intermediate statistics textbook currently available.The authors do an excellent job of explaining how to go about doing statistics.The example problems are throughly worked out for the beginning student.All the steps needed to solve the various kinds of problems that a student will encounter in a statistics course are included.The notation used in the formulas is clear and straightforward.The treatment of p-values and multiple regression analysis is the best exposition to be found among current introductory/intermediate texts .I have taught 4-5,000 students statistics at the introductory,intermediate,and graduate level.I highly recommend this book for anyone taking an introductory to intermediate level course in statistics.

This book is a perennial best seller owing to its comprehensive coverage of statistical tools and methods delivered in a student friendly, step-by-step format. The text is non-threatening and presents concepts clearly and succinctly with a conversational writing style. All statistical concepts are illustrated with solved applied examples immediately upon introduction. Modern computing tools and applications are introduced, but the text maintains a focus on presenting statistics concepts as applied in business as opposed to technology or programming methods. This edition continues as a students' text with increased emphasis on interpretation of data and results.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Principles of Modern Chemistry Review

(More customer reviews)This book is not as approachable as many general chemistry books; as a previous reviewer has noted, this book is written by physical chemists and the organization and presentation of the concepts in the text reflects this. As a physical chemist, I generally like this text; however, I acknowledge that it's not for everyone and I do have a few critiques.
Students who are not mathematically-inclined will have a hard time with this text: the thermodynamics section, the derivation of the kinetic theory of gases, and some of the derivations of the quantum mechanics material are intimidating! However, students with a firm grounding in math and physics will get much more out of this text than they will out of other standard general chemistry texts like Brown and LeMay (Chemistry The Central Science Tenth Edition).
I would strongly recommend this book for students who have an interest in math and physics or who have already taken an introductory chemistry course and want to understand the phenomena described at a more detailed level. For AP Chemistry or for students who haven't taken intro physics or intro calculus, I would instead recommend the Brown and LeMay book. I feel that its coverage of some of the topics is a bit more superficial, but it is more approachable for students taking chemistry for the first time.
One last note: I dislike the newest edition of this book because they authors reorganized the chapters into a "quantum first" presentation (quantum mechanics is introduced in chapter 4 rather than chapter 15 as it was in the 5th edition). While this organization is suitable for some full-out physical chemistry courses, it is not appropriate for this book. If this book is to be used as a general chemistry book, consider doing the chapters out of order: start with the history of chemistry chapters, skip to the thermo stuff, and come back to quantum later. It's much easier to grasp intuitively if you work from the macro to the micro and not the other way around.

This edition has been updated to reflect the continuing developments taking place in chemistry. It emphasises the total scientific process placing general chemistry into a complete perspective for science and engineering students.

Technology in Action Complete Review

(More customer reviews)There are many books that could be used in the introduction to computers level of classes. They tend to be very similar, in topics, order and structure. While this book is more of the same, there is one feature that stands out, the coverage of ethics in the context of computing. Ethics and the proper usage of computers is a significant aspect of the computing culture for all of us, but it is more significant for the college student. The advent of the Internet has made it much easier to obtain information and harder to filter it for accuracy. It is now much easier to plagiarize; all you have to do is copy and paste. Fortunately, it is also easier for instructors to identify an act of plagiarism; there are websites that will do it for you. The digitization of music makes it easy to download and play music on MP3 players. This list could continue for some time.
There are several places in the book where ethical principles are related to the topic. It is to the credit of the authors that this coverage is not just a spouting of facts; the questions are designed to have the students think about the situation and reach their own ethical conclusions.
This book is superior to the companion introductory volume with the same name. It contains more material than the introductory volume and all other things being equal I prefer to skip rather to supplement.
It is most unlikely that I will ever teach an introductory course in computing again. However, if I was to do so, I would take a hard look at this book, it is suitable for the course and I would most certainly adopt it.

Delmar's Standard Textbook of Electricity Review

(More customer reviews)Excellent textbook. Presented in a textbook format with plenty of pictures, easy to read and understand. Linear learning curve. Explains ins and outs of electronics and electricity basics, easy math (no two-page formula derivations!). I found it a great resource for brushing up for my electronics tech certification. Recomend to anyone who wants to know how electricity operates, with references to real life. Straight to the point (thorough basics, and minimum fuss).

Modern Graphics Communication (2nd Edition) Review

(More customer reviews)I had to purchase this book for my AUTOCAD class. We NEVER used it! It is an interesting book if you have time to look at it between all those AUTOCAD drawings and projects you're doing, however if you don't need it, I don't suggest getting it. The AUTOCAD 2011 book was a much better help, with better examples.

The chapters include topics such as finding the "right" conference, preparing for presentation, and networking at the conference. Authors Leo Mallette and Clare Berger clearly fill a niche since there are few books which relate to this subject available. I would recommend this book highly to both graduate students and new faculty as an excellent reference guide to further publishing, career opportunities, and enhancing networking skills. One of a series of developmental maths textbooks, this volume focuses on basic algebra, with applications. It provides a learning system organized by objectives, around which all lessons, exercises, end-of-chapter review tests and ancillaries are arranged. The last objective in every section is, where applicable, devoted to applications, and a specific strategy is suggested for each major application problem, encouraging students to plan problem-solving strategies before addressing the problems.

This is a benchmark text for the syllabus organized by technology (a week on databases, a week on networks, a week on systems development, etc.) taught from a managerial perspective. O'Brien defines technology and then explains how companies use the technology to improve performance. Real world cases finalize the explanation.

There are even tips on those lessons at school that you always fell asleep in - grammar! I don't know how I would ever have got through things without this book. An ironic sense of humour makes it all most readable.

General Chemistry With Student Technical Package Seventh Edition Review

(More customer reviews)This was the assigned text for my first semester of college chemistry. During that one semester, I forced myself to read it without compromise, repulsive though it was.
In general, it seems that the author attempts to make up for their poor writing ability by using small examples of limited applicability to convey general ideas. This method should work well enough to prepare the reader for the relatively easy exercises that they will find at the end of each chapter, but it ultimately fails to prepare them for real-world problems.
Now I have heard that some students prefer examples to words, in which case they should look at this book. Yet for those of us who hope to fully understand the material after the exams are over, a more advanced book is necessary.

I kept searching for materials that will help me improve in my communication. But the materials that I found were either not to my level or not emphasising on business communication. But Camp, Satterwhite and co. were able to address the issues I have been looking for. This book lays emphasis on daily communication faced in today's business world. I will recommend this book to anybody seeking on how to improve on their business communication especially for foreigners. I really liked how the dealt on the speaking aspect of communication.
