(More customer reviews)I used this book for TJ admissions review with my child. This is definitely not a starter book. It was great for review however, especially the verbal section since that seems to be inadequately covered in most other books. We also used PSAT books for practice, but the verbal required for Science and Tech focused high school admissions test is just not all there within the PSAT curriculum (Scrambled paragraphs anyone?). It has good explanations not only within the sections, but also for each of the test questions in the answer guide. My recommendation will be to copy the answer sheet (the one your child fills out) instead of using the one in the book. This allows for re-use of the tests, and for practice on the same material weeks/months later if needed (or with another child).

Updated to reflect the most recent actual tests, this new edition of the SHSAT manual prepares eighth grade academic achievers for the competitive test that qualifies them to enter New York City's Specialized High Schools. The schools include the Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School, and Stuyvesant High School. The manual presents approximately 600 problems with answers and detailed solutions. Also included are three full-length practice SHSAT tests, four half-length tests, a set of Math Diagnosers that will help identify and correct student weaknesses, and a series of Skillbuilders that specifically focus on each of the SHSAT's sections. Solutions are given for all problems. Students will also profit from the book's practice exercises for the test's Logical Reasoning section, as well as the authors' recommended study tips and test-taking advice.
